unconscious sedation for a cavity filled?

My daughter (7) is scheduled for unconscious sedation at a local children's hospital. She has been to a wonderful dentist multiple times and won't let them even clean her teeth. I've tried talking with her about it but she gets so anxious :(. The doctor said that conscious sedation wouldn't be an option for her because she is just so anxious. She is a very sweet girl but has really bad anxiety with dentists and doctors. I'm just scared because of the risks involved with unconscious sedation (im a registered nurse which doesn't help). Any advice for me would be greatly appreciated?

I had to have that for my teeth when I was younger I have no idea how my mom felt but I know it makes the dentist visits a lot easier. To this day I at least need that gas stuff for a cleaning because my anxiety is so bad. Just hang in there is all I can say,  coming from my side it made my visits go smoother when I was young

Poor thing! I think another commenter made a really good point when she said she got unconscious sedation for dentist visits when she was little and it made everything go much smoother and less stressful. A huge upside if you being an RN is you know all the important questions to ask about the sedation - like what type of medication they will use, how long will this take, how will your daughter be monitored, etc etc so you can just ask and ask until you feel like your main concerns have been addressed. Also, just remember that the sedation is more stressful on you than your daughter, and this way she won't have to get so stressed out while the dentist is trying to work on her, and she won't have any traumatic memories about dental visits.
