IUD 6 week follow upappointment HELP!!!

I have my follow up appointment today and I've been spotting since I got it 6 weeks ago but a couple days ago it got a little heavier and brighter like a period so I'm pretty sure that's what it is and I don't feel comfortable going to the OBGYN while bleeding and them having to go in there and check the placement... Do I NEED the appointment if I don't have any negative symptoms and seems like everything is fine?? Can I just reschedule it or is it okay to just cancel or??? Any advice?
