Dpo? Cycle is being screwy

When do you start counting down dpo? Prior to this cycle, I thought ovulation was when you saw the egg white CM. Using this criteria, I thought my period was late, but I got my period 2 days after my assumed CD1. I'm temping this cycle, and I found that my bbt didn't increase until 2 days after my egg white CM surge. Does this mean I'm ovulating 2 days after my most fertile CM? If so, my cycle is about 3 days longer than average now.
