Induce at 39 weeks?

Question

As of my last appointment just short of 37 weeks she was at the 12th growth percentile. My doctor just says that she will be a small baby and that she will be ready to induce at 39 weeks. Is this normal?  I'd really like to have her natural as I was induced with my first.

Then tell her that. It doesn't sound as though there is a medical need, if anything and baby is smaller than could probably stand to cook a little longer. Be your own advocate hun. I laughed when my doctor tried to say something about scheduling a repeat c section at 39 weeks. I just flat out told her no I plan on having a vbac just like the last time and since I know a requirement of that is going into labor on my own I told her if I become a week late then I will schedule one but not before 41 weeks. They can't force you to be induced no more than they can force me onto an operating table. Sorry not sorry we are not first timers do not let them decide how or when your baby will come. Babies are usually pretty good at that lol. Had I refused the pitocin with my first I feel I'd have never had a c section anyways.

You can refuse.. she going to be small anyway I really don't see a difference in her coming on her own.. just another excuse by a doctor.

I had the same issue with my daughter. They even did an in depth scan with a fetal monitoring specialist, placenta was fine, embillical cord was fine but she was measuring small. They induced, had her at 38+5 and she was the most perfectly healthy baby at 6lbs11oz. Anticipating the same thing happening with this one and if that's the case, I'm refusing to be induced.

Ask your dr why she wants to induce. I've heard that sometimes with babies who measure small, there are issues, like baby not getting everything needed from the placenta, that would be a reason to induce.

I say it depends. IUGR can be a big deal if the placenta is no longer supporting baby properly and that's why baby is not growing.
