Quitting from maternity leave?

Any mom's previously quit from maternity leave? Did you have to pay back the salary or medical premium?

Background: my company got bought out in October. Our paid maternity leave went from 16 weeks to 12 weeks and the unpaid time off went from a year to 0 weeks. I figured we would lose some paid time but not the unpaid. I have always planned on taking 3 months of unpaid.

I don't love my job and have always considered finding something else. 12 hours a day an hr away from home will be too much with a baby anyways. So I am considering talking my paid leave and then quitting but don't know what the implications would be. And I don't feel like I can ask HR without reprocussions.
