If you cheated on your SO would you ask for forgiveness?

This is just hypothetical. Please for the love of all don't comment something like i would never cheat. Like yes obviously, but this is just a what if question.

Edit: personally i did once in high school. We had been dating for two days and a guy friend came over to see me before he went off for college and it happened. I told my then boyfriend and he wanted to make it work. I told him no that i clearly was not ready for a relationship and didn't date again until 2 years afterwards. Then got cheated on. A lot of my friends have said they would have tried to make it work, but i just didn't see the point in it. If it ever happened now that I'm married i would try to make it work out.
