how does a doctor check for yeast infections?

I think I might have a yeast infection.

But I only have a strong smell, + itchiness inside the vagina.+ dry discharge on my knickers

I'm not sure if this is a yeast infection?(please say if not)

But how would they check for one?

Your gynecologist will have to take samples from the inside of your vagina and send those to the lab... it's a very fast procedure.

Well I didn't know if I had one or not, I called my doctor (not my OB, just my doctor I've had since I was kid) and told her I had extreme itchiness and thick white discharge. She prescribed me a medication over the phone and I picked it up and everything was solved.

Not sure if that was just my situation, but mine was just a simple call to my doctor

When i got checked she did a swab and a urine test but the swab is what checked for yeast infection the urine was just in case it was something else lol
