When I first found out I was having a daughter, I was thrilled because she was the perfect addition to our family! I also realized that having/being a girl meant a lot of pink apparel and I didn't know where to begin shopping for her to avoid that! I checked out Target, Walmart, Gap, Gymboree, Old Navy and all the typical stores and I wasn't keen on the overwhelming pink and purple tones to denote a baby girl. My only other option seemed to be pale yellow.

I'm not a tomboy at all, but I'm also not overtly feminine – I wear dresses and skirts all the time, love bows and lace and sexy lingerie, but stick to a mostly muted color palette of black, grey, white, camel, mustard, navy and neutral tones. I even love wearing sequins and a tulle skirt! My husband and I have minimalist aesthetics and are excited to style our daughter like that too.

Some people have asked me "how will people know she's a girl if she's not wearing pink?" I actually discovered that there are a lot of options with adorable bows and bloomers and bonnets in muted colors yet gendered styles for babies. Peter pan collars are so cute! It's not easy finding them but they are out there.
