Genetic testing for baby?

Just had our first appointment today. My doctor suggested getting genetic testing for the baby by doing a blood test around 12 weeks. The test would determine if there are any chromosomal defects (such as the one that causes Down syndrome). We're low risk but she said it helps either give you peace of mind or prepare for what's to come with the appropriate specialists.

We'll probably do it because it's covered by insurance, but I've just never heard of this before. Just curious who else has encountered this. Did you do the testing?

I understand both points, yes and no but my sister had this test done and they said there was a very high probability that her baby would have Downs Syndrome. We all worried the entire pregnancy. He daughter was born completely healthy with no syndrome at all. The tests are not always right. Just be cautious.

I believe it's called the Harmony test (you. CAn Google it). I Live in Canada and this test is not covered by our health care or most insurance policies. Here it's approximately $600 to have done, we are definitely getting it done! And if your doctor is referring to the harmony test you can also find out the gender as early as 10 weeks.

I had it done, mostly because I had a $2,500 deductible and I figure I might as well get all my money worth lol plus I feel like if something were to come if it I'd rather be prepared :)

I was offered the genetic tests with my first pregnancy and declined any. I had a "normal" pregnancy and thought having the  tests would give me unnecessary anxiety. Everyone is different but I didn't find the test necessary.

👋🏼 I did this test before I was pregnant. My ob/ gyn recommended when I told her we were going to start trying back in November. It was worth it since it isn't invasive. It let you know if you have any markers and if you do then they'll test your other half to make sure they don't share the same marker. I was negative for everything so we didn't have to worry about.

Worth it. I tested negative both times. It really eased my mind, because my pregnancies are high risk. Congratulations!
