Why doesn't he buy me gifts anymore?

My SO and I have been together for 3 years and it seems like he doesn't want to buy me gifts for holidays anymore. For Christmas he didn't buy me ANYTHING. Not even a cheap card. For me, it's not about how expensive the gift is but just the thought. He used to put effort into his gifts but now I don't receive anything. Why is this?...

Does he express he loves you in other ways? There's a theory about love languages that I think is worth reading about. Basically, some people feel most loved when their partner does little tasks for them, others feel loved when their partner is very verbally expressive, others reallly prize getting gifts.

So maybe he "speaks" a different love language than you? I've told my SO that gifts are something that make me feel loved and he definitely paid attention. Some of his gifts are tiny things like hair elastics but the point is that he was thinking of me and what I like/need

I think this could be a difference in the way you show affection! Love languages! My ex husband (great guy) was all about super thoughtful gifts and such. I am not that way. I enjoyed the gifts but I never thought of them as needed, never expected them, and was awful at giving back. To me, it was all about how I treated him and how much attention I paid to him. I showed my love by folding his clothes because I know he doesn't like to, or scrubbing his back in the shower. It took us forever to learn 1) that we were both disappointed because of the other showing love in the "wrong" way for us 2) to start to learn each other's love language and 3) to learn to see when the other is trying to show affection, even if it's not how we wanted.

It took me years to realize but my husband is the kind of guy who says get what you want I'll pay for it 99% of the times. Not every guy will go shopping in malls going crazy to buy gifts but that doesn't mean he doesn't love you. Maybe you can mention where you want to go for dinner on your birthday or anniversary ...I'm sure he won't make you pay the bill on your birthday. Also it could be he is financjally stressed. For holiday season make a list of the 3 things you would like to he can pick one, maybe he needs ideas or motivation. Ask him if you can use the joint account to book a small vacation for the next anniversary.I used to feel embarrassed and petty to have to do that but a counselor told me it's ok if you're no appearing needy or nagging.Read the book five languages of love.

My husband's the same. He used to buy me gifts when we were dating but now that we're married, our gifts to each other is having one another. Yes it's sad sometimes to not receive gifts but he remembers my birthday and our anniversaries. Even if there's no flowers or cards, a dinner and kiss makes it all so special. Don't feel too bad. Maybe let him know how that makes you feel and ask him why things have changed.

EDIT: I always buy him gifts for holidays and I always put in effort and get him really sweet cards. I even buy him things just because I feel like surprising him.
