I think so? That being said, I lost my virginity at 22 (by choice) and the guys I dated prior to that were fine with us not having sex, they respected my wishes not to do so. At the time I was saving myself for marriage (obviously i didn't stick to that plan) but those relationships were way more intimate and exciting than most relationships with active sex lives. However my friend has been in a relationship with her partner for two years and they haven't had sex in over a year due to her pelvic floor problem and that is starting to take a toll on their relationship. I think sex becomes a fundamental part of the relationship once you've had it, as it becomes an expectation. Hope that makes sense.

It depends on what you and your SO want. If you're just dating it doesn't have to be. But I think if you're married you should be having sex... If you don't I think it means you're not sexually attracted to one another and that can be unhealthy.

I'd say it depends on the person. There are people who don't like, don't enjoy or aren't interested in sex. For those people, I'd say no. For those who do enjoy and are interested in sex, I'd say yes, at some point it is. Otherwise, one person may cheat. That doesn't make cheating okay; that's not what I'm saying.

Sex does bring people closer though, not just physically but emotionally and mentally as well. It's because, during orgasm, a hormone called oxytocin (the love hormone) is released that makes you feel closer and more bonded with your partner. Other hormones are released that help with those feelings as well during sex. So... scientifically, it does help people to bond, but that doesn't mean you should just rush in to have sex. There are right times and places for these things to occur in any relationship.
