Mongolian blue spots?? or bruise??

My son is 6 weeks old and I noticed 2 weeks ago that he has what looks like a blue/grey bruise at the top of his buttcrack. It's not lightening up at all. About the size of a clementine. So I googled it and I came across Mongolian blue spots. Has anyone heard of these? Or have a child with one? It's less than 10% of Caucasian infants with these marks. Much more common in darker skinned origins. Just really curious to hear more about other people's experiences. Going in for 8 week checkup and shots soon. I will mention it to baby's doctor.

My daughter was born with the Mongolian mark. A pretty big one right across her bum. She's 1/2 Puerto Rican & 1/2 Black

I actually  had them as a baby and still have it very light on my butt i am Caucasian  but obviously  have some darker skin heritage  down the line.

Almost everyone in my family had them. for the longest time i didn't know that some kids didn't get them lol

My daughter is mixed (white and black) she was born with a Mongolian spot on her bum. MW said it may go away by her toddler years or it may never go away. My daughters has definitely lightened up in the past 2 months though.

My son has two mongolian blue spots on his butt lol one up by the top of his crack and the other on his cheek. He's half white and a quarter black and a quarter native American. His doctor said it's like a birthmark and probably won't go away but could lighten up. Nothing to worry about.
