when people say "you will know"

Question

Has anyone heard stories from women that they didn't even realize they were in labor until they told someone their back kinda hurt every 5 minutes, and that person told them to go to the hospital, and then, bam!  baby born!

I've heard this same story from 3 different women- one of them my mother- and it kinda scares me.  When I share that I'm afraid of that happening to me I get laughed at and told "oh, YOU'LL KNOW!"

Do you think the women that tell these "I didn't even realize I was in labor" are just embellishing and trying to sound tough?

I'm getting contractions every 15 minutes or so.  I'm pretty sure they're not Braxton hicks because they don't ease up and I can feel them in my lower back and down the inside of the thighs.  They just don't hurt that bad.  Like on a scale of 1-10 maybe a 2.5.  I imagine that they will suddenly get much worse.  I mean IT IS labor... it's painful right??!

I had no idea.  My back had been sore all day,  but I get back pain a lot so I just figured it was that.  Decided to go in and get checked anyways cause I was 39+5. They hooked me up to the monitors and I was apparently having really strong contractions. I couldn't feel a thing until our dr came in and broke my water lol

No you won't lol not necessarily. With my 1st she was two weeks late and I thought I had been in labor many times during that two weeks only to be sent home. Then when I finally did go into labor I did not know I thought it was just another false alarm and I'd be sent home but when I got to the hospital I was already at a 9! My 2nd was induced so I never really experienced it again with him. This one I contract all the time and she still hasn't dropped but my body seems to think she has lol...so I don't know where woman get the you'll know from. If everyone knew there'd be no accidental car, home, or last minute births.

My contractions hurt like a mother....I could definitely tell the difference between them and BH.  I also dilated from 4cms to 10cms in an hour so that may have had something to do with it.

People told me that too, but if my water hadn't broken with my first, I wouldn't have known. I didn't feel contractions until I was given pitocin. I had been having contractions for around 15 hours and was about 6 cm dilated before they did that.

I wasn't sure I was in labor until I called my dr and told her I was having contractions every 1-2 minutes apart. I thought they'd be way more painful. Don't get me wrong they hurt but not enough to believe they were real.

HAHAHAHA I didn't know, BUT because when my mom had us we were quick when the "cramping", like I had eaten something bad, the ones that you just breath through but make you sweat 😂😂, were every second minute or so and regular I thought it was probably labour....it was!
