I mentioned to my mother that my boyfriend and I are backwards and even though he hasn't given me a engagement ring/proposed we know what day we want to get married. I also said because of how awful both our parents divorces were and the tension, expense and anxiety, that I have always imagined eloping with him with maybe a friend or two as witness and then when we come back we announce it and throw a BBQ/party with family. Well she instantly got mad and was like 'I want to see my daughter get married' and whatever... I love weddings but I'm really a social outcast and I don't think I'd be able to enjoy the day stressing that my mom and dad can't be mature around each other. My parents eloped when they got married, and I just don't know now. I wish I didn't mention anything tbh
