Has anyone had their Mirena removed? What is it like, and how long should I expect to have my cycles out of whack for afterward? I'm in my fifth year and it isn't due to be removed till November, however, I've started getting frequent periods and am starting to doubt its effectiveness. My husband and I don't want kids now, but may decide within the next five years to have kids. I'm also type 1 diabetic (insulin dependent since I was a kid) and have had a hard time finding a birth control that levels out my hormones and, essentially, my blood sugar levels. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge on what to do next? I'm trying to make an appointment (sent a message to my doctor) but want to know what to expect as far as birth control that works effectively for a very sexually active married couple but also isn't bad for my diabetes by allowing hormones to fluctuate.
