Piggybacking off of the African beauty pageant post

I know a few of you guys were participating in the beauty pageant post that was moved to the race and gender room, and I would ask what I'm about ask there, but since it seems to be so volatile, I figured I would ask my question here.

In my reply to that thread, I said that I felt weird that a white woman was given the "Mother Africa " title. At the time that I posted, I couldn't put my feelings into words as to why, and I was attacked for my comment, even though I acknowledged I was a bit problematic.

Anyway, I later did research on the pageant and learned that the "Mother Africa " title wasn't a winning title and that a black south African woman won the actual pageant, but I still feel weird about it. I blame it on myself being American and growing up in the American racial climate. But my question is, am I wrong for feeling weird? Am I a complaining, bitter racist like I've been told I am? I don't feel any hate or anger towards this woman, I just feel weird about the situation and I understand that it is problematic.
