newborn insert car seat?

Wondering whether or not any stores sell generic infant inserts for car seats? Just any old thing to fit in the car seat. We plan to use my 11 month olds car seat she's in now for the baby and get her a new one.

But unfortunately, I can't seem to find where I placed the newborn insert! I looked online and really didn't have any luck. Anybody know of anything?

Call the manufacturer of your carseat and ask where you can get an infant insert.  Like the other ladies said they need to go with the seat or they're not safe.

I think it's because they do not recommend using aftermarket items for infant car seats. We rolled receding blankets to help stabilize our newborns heads/shoulders, ect.

No, these take away the safety standards car seats pass and are supposed to withstand. Don't use anything of the sort, for use rolled blankets, none of this. If you "need" these items to make Babe a more secure fit then you're using the wrong car seat/ size seat to begin with.

I wouldn't trust an after market generic insert anyway. I'd contact the car seat manufacturer and see if they can directly sell you a replacement insert but if not I wouldn't risk it.

They aren't recommend because they aren't secure to the car seat. If you get in an accident they slide and can cause more harm then good for baby. Roll up a receiving blanket after baby is in the seat and place around the head for added support.

My hospital told me to only use an insert that the manufacturer of your car seat sold.

I got mine from Fred Meyers (I'm in Oregon) and I have also seen them at Target and Walmart. This is baby #3 for me, I don't have a strong opinion on using an infant insert purchased separately.
