Fan question

I would like to ask a question.

I was recently out to eat with my 2 1/2 year old son. The whole time were were there there was another little boy around the same age crying at the table next to us. After awhile my son started to ask me if he could go give the boy a kiss. He asked several times as it was clear he was concerned and wanted the boy to feel better. I think it is very sweet that he wanted to be there for this boy but i ended up telling him that it was not a good time.  I don't want him to stop wanting to show compassion towards others and help those in need. I'm curious what other people would have done in this situation?
