Sounds dumb but new to all this

What is a first trimester screening consist of ? Like I'd like to know what to aspect and what they just really go over and all. Why couldn't my normal obgyn do this screening? She sent me elsewhere? Do they give you pictures of the baby? Do they sometimes tell u the gender ? Any information helps since it's my first baby. Sorry for the dumb questions!
