My daughter has been a belly sleeper since about two months. It was the only way she would sleep well. I only let her sleep on her stomach during nap time, though, so I could keep an eye on her. Once she could roll over, I relaxed and she's ten months old and still sleeps on her stomach.

General rule is once they can roll they can tummy sleep. My first son was in the NICU and the nurses put him on his tummy and he refused to sleep on his back after that, so for us since birth. He almost 4 years old and that's still the only way he sleeps.

My daughter has been rolling since she was 4 months old. Since she can move herself around, I let her sleep in whatever position she wants. She sleeps in warm pajamas or sleepers, though, never in blankets.

When they can flip over by themselves, then theres no reason to turn them onto their back because they have enough strength to get themselves out of that position. I did let my son sleep on his tummy during the day for naps since he was born though.
