Birth control and periods: How does it effect your cycle?

My birth control is taken regularly, and I am currently 4 days late on my period. I've been taking it for almost a year- and my period still isn't regular. So I'm just curious to see how it effects all of you. (I did go through PMS, but yeah, still nothing.)
