when is the best time to use diaper rash cream on your new born?

Any one knows when is the best time to start using diaper rash cream on a new born? My husband and I are arguing a lot, he thinks it's a waste of money to have it and I think it's worth having it and do not use it if it won't  be necessary. He thinks baby won't need anything artificial on her skin for the first few weeks. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm just keeping a tub of coconut oil handy if/when baby needs it (diaper rash/cradle cap/bath) and it won't go to waste because if she doesn't use it, I will.

Totally depends on your babe!  I swear I only needed diaper cream a handful of time when my son was in diapers, but I worked at his daycare and some of those little ones seemed to constantly have a need for it.  You could always buy a small tube to have on hand and go from there.

Wouldn't you rather have it handy in case you need it, rather than needing it in the middle of the night and your poor baby suffering until you can get to the store the next day? Tell hubby to shut it. Better to be prepared than not and it costs a few dollars.

I'd say not until you start seeing a rash. When my son was in nicu, one nurse put a line of vasoline in his diaper to prevent rash but she said it was up to me. He's 3 and a half weeks now and we only used it because hubby thought he saw a rash. Totally up to you :) also, my nurse said they don't recommend powder anymore because it can get in baby's lungs.

Don't put it on all the time.. only if there is a need for it otherwise it won't work well when you do need it. 
We just have a thing of desitin. In two years we didn't even go through a whole tube with my daughter... She hardly ever had a rash

Try Aquaphor instead of a diaper rash cream...it works wonders

I wish I could have started earlier using Vaseline on my little boy once his cercumsion was healed from the previous use of Vaseline. It would've saved us the worries of his skin breaking out in diaper rash and keep it protected. Tell your husband that it has nothing but great benefits from it. There really isn't anything bad other then a rare allergic reaction.
