Herpes

I found out yesterday I have been diagnosed with herpes. i'm not sure what type yet considering it was just sent out to the lab. I am 18. I was told my boyfriend, who is my only partner and I am his, is a carrier and has never had an outbreak. I would like to know any precautions anyone has to help outbreaks or prevent from getting them as often. this is just all so new and scary :(
