Has anyone on here ever settled for someone before?

Question

What does settling for someone feel like? 
Does it mean you don't really love them? 
Is it because you don't want to be lonely? 
Do you just stay with them out of fear that you won't find anyone else? 
I hope this doesn't seem like I'm asking dumb questions. I'm just very curious.

*This isn't about me. I'm very happy with my man.* lol

I'm settling right now and I don't like it. I do love him...we've been through a lot of shit. But I know he doesn't treat me the way I deserve, although he's getting better. I feel like he's settling on me until he finds better. And I know it's going to hurt like hell because the idea of not having him around hurts.

I settled for someone for 7 years and by the end of it I was miserable. I had love for him and did care about him but we just were not meant to spend our lives together.

My current husband is someone I never felt I had to settle with. In fact, we have had to fight hard for our relationship due to international long distance, immigration visa for me to get to England, a psycho ex, etc and now here we are. Never loved someone the way I love him.

Don't settle. You will eventually regret it.

Well when u settle, for someone it doesn't mean you don't love them any less. I think yes it may be out of fear to be lonely but if they make you Ehappy and feel confident that "settling" feeling might be a good thing because u may feel like u don't see your life with out that person.

Some people at first feel like they're "settling" when the person their with is totally different from the people they're used to dating and might seem a little scary and leave you questioning yourself. And then they're some people who let's say jumped into a new relationship right away (rebounding) and because they're so devistated by a previous relationship you'll pretty much "take what you can get". That's when u have to ask yourself, why u love that person, can you see urself without them in your life?  (if no u might not be settling). Are you happy with them? ( yes what is it about them that makes you happy) are they caring respectful supportive? All of these are important to ask yourself when u feel that way. But most of all DO U SEE YOURSELF SENDING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WITH THEM(and still feeling this way about them) ?If the answer is no to that on after asking all those other questions even if it's a yes. The u may just be settling. 
 
When u date someone the end goal should be marriage, partnership, civil union. What ever your believes may be the goal should be life with that person with out a doubt. If u don't see that happening, it's not fair to either of u to continue "tying each other down"
