Don't install til your at the hospital because even a simple rear end crash will void the car seat. You will have to get another one.

We have not installed, we will wait until it is hospital time! Only because if you were to be in any form of an accident - the carseat should then be replaced (and baby hasn't even used it yet!!)

I haven't bought mine yet - waiting until a little closer to the date. The warranty starts when you buy it, so I don't want to waste a few months of the warranty and then have something happen that would have been covered.

I have installed the base but not the actual car seat.

Some city fire and/or police departments have employees trained in car seat installations and will install the seat for you and show you how to ensure its installed correctly.  I'm going to utilize this service but want to wait until closer to the big day.

I'm waiting because I might as well enjoy having an empty backseat for as long as I can and also if I did get in a crash then it could damage the seat (and also void the warranty)

You can install the base early but don't install the seat until you need it. Any little accident you will need to replace

I'll be installing the base at the end of March but won't be putting the car seat in until we're heading to the hospital for delivery

No. We will be rearranging kids so waiting until last minute. I don't recommend doing that... But I've installed carseats while in labor and we have a KeyFit which is easier to install than buckling my big belly in... 😑
