is it rude to ask for money?

May babies birthdays are 4months away. I've started planning. 
    I honestly don't want her to end up with a lot of toys. How can I nicely ask for them to either give money or deposit money into her collegebond fund? 
    It gives a code for the gifter to directly deposit the money.

Is it rude to ask for that?

I don't think it's rude at all. You're the parent, although I know people love love to shop for babies/kids. If you're sending out an invite for the party maybe put a little note at the bottom just letting people know what you prefer. I doubt that anyone would feel bad about it. I also saw this cute rhyme ..

You needn't buy me presents,
I'm only turning one,
But if you'd like to bring me something,
I wrote a list for fun!
I love all kinds of toys,
And you can't beat a fairytale,
But my parents have high hopes,
That I will go to Yale!
So if the idea of toy shopping,
Fills you with trepidation,
I'd appreciate a donation,
To my education!

I feel like giving that option as a preference would be best. Some people will still prefer toys or whatever else they choose. I feel like personally it's a little weird to dictate gifts no matter what the occasion.

We have a college fund set up for our daughter as well it also gives a gift code option. I've been debating putting the information with the invitations to her party as well but am unsure of how to do it.

Following this!!! We are so fortunate that our families are so generous with our daughter but she still has toys unopened from Christmas because our house is just too small we plan on opening a bank acct in her name and hopefully incorporating it on the invitation somewhere

Perhaps you can use something similiar to what i did with my wedding it was called a wishing well (there are a ton of ways to phrase it on pinterest) and then offer some gift ideas you would appreciate for those (like my mom) who think money is impersonnel

At Christmas we tried to ask our relatives who asked for suggestions to just put the money they planned on spending in her education savings plan. We told them she had far too many toys and was too young to really understand or appreciate what was going on. Only my husband's grandma listened. We probably won't even try to make requests for her first birthday. Bring on the piles of toys :-/
