Maybe I'm stupid, but what would be offensive about it?? It's a reasonably common last name....

I think it's weird when people who have never even met someone Jewish/live in a rural and non-diverse area choose it just because they like the sound of it. I saw someone on here who was choosing it and had the last name Hatfield. Now, I guess you could live anywhere and have the last name Hatfield, but it certainly conjures up a part of the country that is less than friendly to urban immigrant populations, to say the least! So, that one struck me as especially funny, and I did mention it to some of my Jewish friends -- they pretty much just laughed and eye-rolled. I think it is good and very culturally sensitive of you that you are worrying about it, and honestly, I would avoid it if you have no ties to the Jewish community. I don't think you are going to get a lot of useful feedback on here, as I don't get the impression that a lot of posters come from areas where diversity/cultural sensitivity are issues given high priority, so hopefully what I'm saying is helpful!

From what I understand Cohen is a title much like Caliph or Pope. I'm not Jewish but I like to respect cultural norms as much as possible, even if I don't personally understand them, so for that reason I wouldn't ever use it.

I think the name is nice and not offensive in any way. This is your baby! You name'em whatever you wish if you think it's fitting. It doesn't matter what others think. It matters what you think and you SO of course too. 😊

When I looked up the name meaning it mentioned that Kohen means priest in the Jewish culture and that some may think it's offensive for a non Jewish person to name their child that....just curious to see if others saw anything wrong with it as a name!

My best mates name is Cohan. 
And although it's spelt different i was told it has the same meaning. And he is in no way Jewish. He's a proud Maori man. If you like the name, then don't worry about what other people would say

I honestly don't think most people would know what it meant. I would just spell it different than the Jewish spelling. I don't think it's offensive.
