When did your baby first sit up on its own?

Please comment things that you did to help support them in learning how to sit up...

My boo is almost nine months and he still can't actually get into sitting position on his own.

He has been sitting up since about 6 1/2 months if you put him up though

Let him do it on his own (get to a sitting position). I work with occupational and physical therapists and their first words of advice were "do not buy bumbos or any other sitting devices!" They do the OPPOSITE of helping your baby learn to sit. Baby never has to learn to use the correct muscles to keep himself up because the devices support too much. This creates an unsafe sitter who thrashes backwards because he doesn't know how he got to that position.

We followed this advice and it was amazing to see him do it all on his own from a crawling position!! He was/is a super safe sitter and goes right back to a crawling position when he wants to get out of sitting. Never thrashed backwards or anything. Therefore never needed to surround him with pillows!

I have 6 month old twins and one is 3lbs heavier than his brother, the chubby one can't quite sit up without help and I think it's his belly getting in the way🤣

In a box lol I cut it to have it open mostly on the front enough room to lean side to side put some toys in there with him sitting upright he will sway side to side most likely I did it with my niece when I would baby sit her & she couldn't sit up at about 7 months my mother recommended it did it every day I had her after her naps for 30 min or until she got angry & she learned in 2 weeks

She's still working on it but she's 4months and getting the hang of it by balancing herself with her arms outstretched like she's trying to fly

Have you tried the tripod? I started it at like 4 months I would sit him in front of me and put is hands in front of him so he was supported by sitting and by putting weight on his hands. We did that everyday and then one day around 5 months he just sat up staight.

My daughter is 2 and half months and will sit in front of me while holding my fingers with each hand.  She has had really good head and stomach control since she was born.  But since she has learned she can do this she hates laying down. I say this not to gloat about her but to just show every kiddo is different and no mom should feel their child is not meeting milestones or going way above.  I will say because she can do this already it has me concerned of her rolling over because i always thought that came first and she hasnt even tried
