why do people cheat without telling their SO

So i wanna know why like men or women don't tell their husband or girlfriend they are cheating on them,, they just want to keep them around while they are cheating????? Why is that?????

I thinks it's impossible to generalise, but what good is it to tell or be told?
I always considered it a selfish move - to get it off your chest, while hurting another deeply.
Cheating is wrong and admiring to it  makes it no less so

So my ex cheated on me while we were dating. We'd been broken up for almost a year when I actually found out and asked the why's and the how's. Basically he told me that he was upset at me when It happened but after he felt like shit. He Decided not to tell me bc his friend told him that if he really loved me and didn't care about the other girl, he would keep it to himself and move on.

Idk. I've never cheated so I can't explain the mindset.
