IUD birth control... advice?

I have an appointment to get on the hormonal iud next week and honestly I'm terrified. What do I expect for the insertion part? Should I take some pain meds before? What do I expect after? 😅 help please.

Let the doctor know you're nervous and he/she can talk you through it and help you remain calm. For me, it hurt a lot.. I have a high pain tolerance but I think my cervix was sensitive. They injected a local anesthetic for the pain, but it does cramp when it's inserted. Call your obgyn and ask them if they recommend taking pain killers before hand or not. Good luck!!

For me I barely felt it. I had no painkillers. All in all, it was a 2-3/10 for me, when my usual period cramps were often a 6+/10.

If you have a low pain tolerance I would recommend no more than 800mg of ibuprofen about 20-30 minutes before your apointment. You can ask them for a cervix softener and more painkillers if you wish.

I had the copper iud for a little over a year. Insertion wasn't too bad...just a little pinching feeling, a little uncomfortable but over pretty quick. The rest of the day I was glad I was off work because I had achey cramps all day and just didn't feel the best. But after a day or so I was ok. However I had already had a baby before and they say that makes it easier? I didn't take meds because I don't like to, I gave birth naturally  too so I may have a high pain tolerance? If you're feeling apprehensive about pain or discomfort I say yes take some pain meds beforehand. It can only help. And only you know how you handle pain/cramps etc. I recommend taking it easy the rest of the day you're not going to want to do much lol You will love having an iud though, it's so convenient and easy, no worries!
