first day of birth control.

Today I started taking birth control. Due to a 50 day long period. I was prescribed provera for 14 days then the following Sunday after I started bleeding I start BC. How long should I take BC to regulate my periods? Me and my husband are ready for kids but we can't really track anything because of my messed up periods. Anybody had the same problem? And got pregnant right after ending BC?
