Body Fat and TTC

Jennifer
My husband just got home from deployment and we are going to start trying. My dr told me recently that he thinks I need to back off my working out and gain some weight bc he doesn't think I have enough body fat. Could this be possible? Has this happened to anyone?

If you're having normal periods, I would wait until there is a problem before worrying about it. I have a good amount of friends who are so thin that they do not get their periods, and just as many friends who are equally thin and ovulate regularly and have conceived naturally.

I had the same question.. but about too much fat lol.. I'm 190 but don't look heavy 🤔 But I'm 4weeks today in TTC. Period due today Test came back negative.... thinking does fat absorbed the Hcg levels ? Or am I testing to early still?

Yes that's true you can be too thin or too big to conceive naturally, healthy, and in a timely manner... Good luck though!

What's your BMI, & have you had tests indicating that particular hormones are low? Or what's his basis? And what working out do you do? Depending on all of that, it's possible.... I was told the same & did gain a little weight & did get pregnant, but I can't confidently isolate that as the reason I got pregnant.

Probably 10 lbs total but I also definitely gained muscle, so it's a little hard to parse out. (Also, I'm 5'9".) I don't own a scale so I'm just going off what I recall from the dr's office.

How much did you gain?

it is possible, but difficulties occur the more grossly underweight. body won't ovulate if there isn't any fat. typically, seen with individuals who struggle with an eating disorder. however, you're likely fine if you're having normal cycles

It absolutely plays a roll. If you're working out too much, it can become unhealthy and puts your body into self-preservation mode which focuses all of its energy on getting you the nutrition and energy you need, which is not compatible with conception. What's your routine? What do you eat in a day? And are you getting regular periods?

I'd listen to your doctor. Having a low body fat can prevent you from ovulating.

My bmi is in normal range. I workout about 5 to 6 times a week. I do 4 days of spin class and 2 days of weight training.  I do get normal periods every 28 to 31 days. I did have blood work done over a year ago and was told it was all in normal range. He mentioned this bc he noticed I was very lean. He said even though my bmi is normal doesn't me it is tonal for the right reasons. I may weigh more bc of my muscle.

Oooh, I'll check that out once we settle into a house - we're road tripping at the moment - probably for the next 6 weeks. Since I wrote to you I've started tracking how many steps I take each day and also tracking food intake. I'Ve made a commitment to got for a half hour walk each day (plus a lot
