Once a cheater always a cheater? 🤔

Question

I don't necessarily agree with it. When I was younger I cheated on my boyfriend (now husband). There's no excuse for it. I acted out and it was terrible of me to do. But since then I never even consider it. We have been together for 8 years, married for 3. So what are your opinions? Do you agree with the statement "once a cheater always a cheater"? Why or why not?

Nope I don't agree with it, because people can change. They have to want to though.

Because like you, when I was younger I cheated on my now husband. It's been years since, 3 kids later, and I can proudly say I would never again. I was young, stupid and selfish.

I do believe that but anythibg is possible right? Me personally, I could never be with a cheater, they've already given me reason to doubt them, I don't want to be that paranoid woman that's always worried about whether their man is cheating or not.

Yeah I agree with most if the comments. You can change. I did at least. I not so proudly cheated on ex bf's 9 years ago. I was in my late teens and early,early 20's. I wasn't in love with any of them and I loved to party in HS and college.  I didn't look at bf/gf relationships as that serious so I didn't really care. Cheating in marriage was more if a big deal to me. I have been maaaadly in love with my husband who I married 8 years ago and would NEVER cheat on him. It hasn't ever crossed my mind either. However, if I knew my husband cheated on ex gf's I probably wouldn't have married him because I have trust issues. Makes no sense IK!

No! I cheated on my ex with my now husband! The only guy I cheated on was my ex. No one before and certainly not after!! :)

No people change. Love changes. when you cheat you might not be in real love you might love the person but aren't in love with them.

I don't believe it's true. I DO believe that once some cheats in a current relationship, they are more likely to do it again. But in subsequent relationships they can certainly change and be faithful.

I did until it happened to me now 3 years later and two kids I believe that wanting something and giving it your all can overcome anything

It's a label you will have with you for life. It doesn't mean you will do it again, but it obviously damages relationships and the trust that goes with it. Luckily the label is not plastered across your forehead and the entire world doesn't know so you can have a fresh start with someone else. But for those who do give you a second chance, you'll have to be understanding of their hesitation and lack of trust while you repair it, and you have no right to say in how that process goes for them.
