I picked 7 because my daughter is 7 and can do her shower completely by herself and I trust her. I leave my 5 year old in the shower for a few minutes alone to play or whatever but still have to come in and make sure she shampoos and conditions and rinses properly.

This depends on the child. My 5 year old can shower by himself, but I still help him with the soap and check on him often, so he's not totally alone yet. In the bath? I'd be just as leery. He knows the dangers of water but still thinks it's fun to stick his head under water and "swim." I wouldn't leave him alone with a bathtub full of water for long.
