Belly button bleeding...his umbilical cord fell off 2 days ago with this black stuff left in it. Now there's blood...and of course the drs office is closed. Should I be concerned??

My sons looked like that but we happened to have a doctors appt a day or two later. His doctor took a q tip and cleaned the black gunk out. It seemed to be mostly scab. It doesn't look infected it just may need to dry out more. We were told we could use rubbing alcohol on it to help it dry.

We got told this was totally normal and just keep it clean with warm water. Need to worry if it gets red and swollen around the button, or if it bleeds for more than a few minutes. My son is now 18 days and button is all clean.

My midwife said to take a q-tip and wet it and wipe the belly button gently and to try to keep the scab away. We did all that and he's almost 3 weeks and belly button looks great and is all healed.

My son's looked like that. His fell off 1 week after delivery and needed to be cortorized because it shouldn't be bleeding
