About to Start IVF, is the HSG or SIS really necessary???

Doc wanting me to get one of the above, but wondering why it's really necessary?

I completely understand your questioning. I am in a similar situation. I asked my RE the same ? Their response was that it isn't always necessary. Especially cause every situation is different. We suffer with male factor infertility. Last year we had the HSG and the SIS before IUI #3 with out successful pregnancy. I did have a small polyp they removed after those test were done, but I doubt that it has returned and I am ovulating regularly, hence my question.  Depending on what your infertility reasons are, and what your insurance requires, i think it is smart for you to question things. Our RE's aren't Gods and they don't always have the answers, but they are used to standard protocols. They are also in a business that profits over our difficult situation. While I do trust my RE, we do work together; every question I have I refer to them and they are happy to help. If you trust your RE, then ask to explain why you ay or may not need these procedures. Hope this helps. :)

HSG test was totally worth it for hubby and I. We had been TTC for 18 months and it was our last piece of the puzzle before starting IUI. I had the HSG done and conceived the next week! Currently 6 weeks pregnant. Cost us $1000+ but well worth it. Good luck!!

My insurance required it. We didn't get pregnant after though.

I had the HSG done in December - Dr's told me it would be far more likely that I would get pregnant in the three months following the procedure- I found out I was pregnant on January 31st!! Had been TTC for 15 months when we found out!

An hsg will check your Fallopian tubes to make sure they are clear so sperm can meet egg (not relevant with ivf). BUT it also checks your uterus for abnormalities which could hinder even ivf. I'm curious why tho you're jumping right to ivf when your fertility work up isn't complete?  An hsg, bloodwork (cd3 and 7dpo), ultrasound for yourself and a semen analysis for your man should be standard protocol before starting any fertility treatments (in my experience and personal opinion)

Weeeell, if the dr told you that it's necessary,  than pretty safe bet it's necessary
