Has the 2016 election put drama in your family?

Do political discussions start heated arguments?  Are you not talking to someone in your family because of it?

Everyone in my family is moderately republican. Except for my older sister. She's super liberal and is always trying to cause problems and debate with us. It's put a major strain on all of our relationships over the years because she becomes way to sensitive and way too invested in political and social issues. It's one thing to be able to have an adult conversation and just disagreeing with one another. But she takes it ten steps further and gets real nasty and rude. To her, everything she says is the ONLY way and the right way and everyone else that disagrees with her is wrong. She fails to see our views as valid and it's literally impossible to have a normal conversation with her. It's honestly sad. I have to basically avoid her at all costs. She turns everything into an argument.

Everyone in my family (dad, step mom, mom, step dad, brother, step-brother, brothers gf) voted for Trump.

Meanwhile I was a Bernie fan.

It hasn't started any fights though. I respect other people's opinions and beliefs even if I don't agree with them. When they talk about how great they think Trump is, I'll try to find something nice to say about him - he isn't evil, I believe he does have some good qualities, but I still very strongly dislike him. Gotta see the good in everyone. I can express my opinion of him to my family without being disrespectful, without calling them dumb or racists or whatever.

Arguing isn't going to get anywhere. I think that time will show them that he isn't right for our country. Nothing I say will completely change their opinion so why even bother starting fights over it? I did my fighting with Bernie, I was a delegate in my state, I volunteered to get the word around, and I voiced up when I saw the cheating happening at the conventions. I did my part. If people haven't learned yet, then they will have to learn the hard way.

No, we don't have the problem in my family. Nor with friends, but I don't really go around announcing my political opinions so that is probably a factor.  I proudly voted for Trump this time around. I also proudly voted McCain but didn't throw a fit nor start problems with others when Obama won two consecutive elections. I have a hard time understanding why others can't be good sports about it when their candidate doesn't win.

My family has extremely different political views. We agreed to enjoy spending time with each other and therefore do not discuss politics. So no, not in my family cause we don't talk about it.
