Not sure 🙇🏼‍♀️

SO is really bad with money.. he's had a past with gambling and still does i believe. I'm not working right now but trying to find a part time job for weekends. I feel horrible having to ask for money sometimes for personal items or bday gifts for my family. He always told me before never to worry about working but we are always behind on bills and baby needs some items as he's growing bigger.. but here's the dilemma .. I'm worried if I get a job that he will rely on my small income for bills and spend the "extra" that he has. In actuality we don't have any spending money/extra, we both have past debts. Although I would like to help more with bills, I feel like it will back fire?😞 Any suggestions?
