Crying out method for a seven-month-old who needs pacifier

How did you do the crying out method and how long did you have to do it for and how long did you let them cry? Should I start with giving him a pacifier when I put him down for naps and bedtime and when I go in there so I give him his pacifier and then let him cry or do I forgo The Pacifier altogether? I start with letting him cry for 5 minutes and then going in there and soothing him with the pacifier or without the pacifier? I'm guessing I should try to do it without the pacifier this is going to be hard for me to do I have him cry it out
