What to look for in cribs?

I am starting to shop for a crib and I am clueless as what to look for when buying one. Any inputs?

One thing to consider is finding a model that can be lowered quite a bit as baby grows. My son is an escape artist and I can tell you that some of the cribs that aren't as tall he'd definitely jump out of. Other than that, just something that's in the style and budget you had in mind. I've seen anywhere from $100-$2,000 and there are so many different styles to choose from.

As long as you're not buying a really old model, it's basically your choice depending on style & color. You can also go for a regular crib or a convertible that grows with your baby. You could also Google the ones you like if you want to check on if they've ever had a recall.

Pretty much the only differences between cribs are these: color, headboard design (there are some that are just one giant piece of wood, some that have the middle part as a giant piece of wood with bars next to it, and some that are only bars), thickness of the railing edge, and design on the wood/how the wood (or other material) is shaped, and some cribs have a changing table attached to it. It really just depends on your preference once you see them in person. I suggest going to Babies R Us. Here's different pictures of what I mean:

I would look for one that goes high enough for you to be able to bend down and pick the baby up when they're smaller. I've seen cribs that eventually turn into a full size bed headboard but then you have to think "will this really look nice enough to use as a headboard by the time my child is old enough to use it?" Lol

It's totally personal preference. I suggest a convertible one so once baby is big enough you can use as a toddler bed. But again, that's up to you. A lot of resale stores or secondhand stores will have them for half the price and they are basically brand new..
