Reborn dolls - creepy or cute?

I'm researching car seat reviews on YouTube and accidentally clicked one that had one of these dolls "modeling" the car seat.

Made the mistake of clicking the person's channel to see wtf this was about. Apparently people have "nurseries" of these things and act like they're real babies?! This grown ass lady was talking to this doll like it was a legit infant, moving the car seat around "so she can look around and explore".

I can't believe these people exist. The worst part is how many followers she had... like do people really think this is normal? Seems mental to me.

I can appreciate the fact that these dolls were made for women who experienced miscarriages and still births, but that doesn't make the dolls any less creepy.

If a grieving mother feels she needs one of these dolls to help her, then by all means she should get one.

But I'm not going to say "oh it's so cute" when I don't think it is.

I honestly I understand that some woman use these to cope with loss but I see this as something that can become really unhealthy.

I saw one of the ladies on YouTube walking around baby stores looking at baby products with the doll in the car seat as if she was real. The woman was saying it was a hobby for her and not a coping mechanism which is fine if she wants to do that. The thing that really creeped me out though was how she was saying she would sneakily record other people's babies in stores she goes to so she can use the "real baby sound effects" in her videos. That's where I draw the line and find it creepy.

This is actually a really offensive post. They were originally marketed for women who have lost children miscarriage stillborn etc to cope with loss

I wouldn't do it, but she's not harming anyone, so why does it matter?

The doll itself is really cute,I could see myself buying it for my daughter. I believe adults who purchase these are buying them to cope with a certain mental illness or tragedy. My Grandfather's Alzheimers ward had dolls and the adults their legitimately believed it was alive and cared for it. To each their own,I wouldn't judge too much.

It's a little creepy but they are mostly used for therapeutic purposes you should do a little more research and be a little more sensitive with what you post

I lost my son Jett when he was a week old. I have gotten to know lots of other grieving mothers and many of them find comfort and healing in a reborn doll.
For me, however, I don't think I'd be able to look and touch that doll without it hurting more. That doll will never respond, and never grow up. And the thought that Jetty's been in the ground for 7 months means his body doesn't look like that anymore, so that would hurt too.

I was gifted a teddy bear with the same "dimensions" as my son- 6lbs 15oz, 21 in long. It's the greatest gift I've ever received. Some women feel that way toward their reborn dolls.  I don't think it's ANYONE'S business how a woman grieves the loss of her child. And I don't think anyone has the right to call it creepy, either.

I can imagine this is probably a really unhealthy way of coping with a miscarriage. I don't think I've ever heard of any mental health professional who would suggest denial and deluding oneself as an okay coping method.

Ehhhhhh I'm sure people use them who can't have children of their own or they're unsure of how to cope with the loss of their child etc etc. I wouldn't be so quick to all it mental

I think it can get a little creepy. I understand they are for mothers who have lost their babies, and I don't think it's THAT creepy to just own one to look at/hold whatever. But I think it's creepy to be pretending it's alive. Whether or not it helps someone cope that doesn't seem healthy.
