after formula does your baby really need whole milk?

We are about to stop by almost one year old from drinking formula. He has tried whole milk and liked it fine. Does he really need the whole milk? Obviously if wants a bottle I will give it to him, but is it needed? 
  He eats 3 meals a day plus snack if he's hungry between meals and is in 98% of weight

Yes. It's good for bone and brain development. You can, of course, have him drink water, too. I would look up the guidelines on how much to give him per day, and talk to your pediatrician.

No ABSOLUTELY NOT! They don't need milk period! A lot of moms are choosing almond or coconut milk as a matter of fact. Baby just needs those veggies that will give you the vitamins that milk has. Do your research. It's like an old wives tale that people will realize sooner or later. I know many moms who don't give baby cows milk. I will be one of them.

You can 10000% find calcium elsewhere. Hemp milk is a great alternative to cows milk, or coconut milk is wonderful and fatty too. My 14mo won't even drink my breastmilk from a cup but she'll drink water, a smoothie etc. She refuses all milk and ped is totally ok with it as long as she's getting calcium dense foods.

If you do your research, you'll find that cows milk is actually incredibly bad for you. It's an old wives tale that our bones need the calcium. But in actuality, the amount we get from cows milk isn't even absorbed in our system. Also, there's a new study that links a specific blood type to type II diabetes (I may be wrong on which type of diabetes it is). With that in mind, we decided to skip dairy completely for our son and he is a proud drinker of almond milk since 9 months. My husband and I only take in dairy when it necessary, like in cheese lol. But we don't drink cows milk. Did you know we are the only mammals that drink another mammals milk? It's totally crazy once you get into the research of how bad cows milk is. Good luck sugar! And at the end of the day, do what works best for you and your family! What works for us, may not work for you.

My daughter is "lactose sensitive". Her pediatrician said that milk actually isn't a necessity as long as they get dairy from other sources. For my daughter it's yogurt and cheese. If she drinks milk she gets diarrhea and horrid diaper rash, but cheese and yogurt never bother her. I was told 3-4 servings of dairy would be sufficient to meet the fat/calcium needs of her growing body. She weaned herself from formula at 12 months and is now almost 16 months and growing perfectly!!
