First bad cramps

I started my period today and I am having painful, horrible cramps. Can't move, but I have a busy day and need to. How do you guys deal with it? I usually never get cramps and when I do its slightly uncomfortable but nothing like this. I've been "a woman" for 7 years now, so I've had plenty of visits from aunt flow but everything feels different this time. Any advice on the cramps or any experience with periods being unusual for what's considered regular for you? I'm on trinessa (bc pill) and have been for almost a year, I've been using bc pills in general for 2 years. Maybe that's the culprit?
