Did we do the right thing???

So my best friend and i share a mutual friend. we aren't super close but we talk in class and such. she was telling us about her instagram that she has that are all one color and i looked at the nam of one as she scrolled through to show us. i went to search for it and thought it was cool but something was off. when i started reading the comments i realized that she was suicidal and anerexic and cutting herself. i was shocked. i told my best friend and i was freaking out ( i have a close family member that used to be in this position) anyways we agreed to talk to my best friends mom (she is a guidance counselor at our school) and she said to fill out an anonymous police report. we did and she didn't show up to school the next day. (she isn't dead) anyways. do you think that we did that right thing and if you were in this girls position, would you be mad? i'm really conflicted but i stand by my decision to say something. i would feel so guilty if anything happened to her....

You did the right thing. Make sure to show her support when she comes back to school. If you don't know how to support her, try talking to your friends mom the guidance counselor (?) again.

I mean for all we know you could be the one who saved this girls life in the long run. If you feel like you couldn't talk to her face to face about what she is going through then yes I personally feel like you did the right thing. Kudos to you 💕

I've been in this girls position, my friend literally cut me down from the ceiling. She's be upset with you if she knows it was you. Otherwise she'll just be upset, but she'll get the help she needs and in the end she'll be grateful she had you looking out for her. I was so upset with my friend bc she saved my life only for me to stay in an abusive home. But now I'm happy and healthy and I discovered who I was because of her saving me. I owe her my life. You did an amazing thing for this girl. Your a good friend your a great friend. We need more people willing to speak up for the people hurting. God bless you, don't stress out, she will be happy you did this for her.

You did the right thing. I've had friends in this position and there is no easy answer. The simple fact is that had you talked to her first she could have deleted everything and denied it and never gotten the help she needed.

I didn't do anything for my friend when I first saw the scars on her legs. They'd always check her wrists, but not her thighs. In our little secluded corner of the locker room, she's always take meds - xanax, I learned. Her grandmothers or aunts or something. I was never okay with it, and always worried, but she'd assure me she was okay; she was strong, and wise. This was only her coping until she could move on.

Aurora killed herself that December.

I may be slightly ranting, honestly. But if I did something, she may be here. I regret it a lot, that I didn't. All I have left are our friendship necklaces, gifted the very last time I saw her family. But you, you could potentially have that person still. Sure, they may get mad or sad - whatever. They'll be fine, they'll get over it. They'll eventually see that you were trying to help them, and may even be thankful for it.

Never doubt your decision. You may lose this mutual if she's mad at you, or you may receive some backlash. But you potentially saved her. You did a great act, something I wish I did.

It's so much better to upset someone, than wear two necklaces meant for separate people

You should have talked to her first. Yes, you were trying to help, which is great, but to her, this is an act of betrayal, which could push her into a deeper depression. You should have spoken to her and convinced her to speak to someone before going to anyone else. You can force someone into rehab and therapy all you want, but she can't get better until she WANTS to, and by going behind her back without even TRYING to talk to her first, you took that choice away from her.
