Stitches after Tear

For those mom's that have had a perineal tear or episiotomy that needed stitches, is your vagina supposed to feel like the opening is smaller? I feel like there may have been a couple extra stitches put in to make the opening smaller. I often did cervical checks when we were trying to conceive so I knew where I was in my cycle so I am use to how it was. Now, if I insert a finger, I can't just go straight up, I can also go to the side along the inside of where I was stitched up. Only to like my first knuckle of my index finger though so not far. I'm a FTM so I'm not sure what it should be like. I had a second degree tear and am 26 days postpartum if that makes a difference. I just noticed this today as I have been too scared to find out what it was like down there until now. I plan to ask my doctor about it at my 6 week checkup, but I was just curious if anyone else noticed anything like this before.
