what's the best birth control, in your opinion?

I know everyone is different but I'm just looking for all opinions.

I'm 3 weeks pp. I've never tried any birth control but all the horror stories worry me

I have Paraguard which is the copper IUD and I love it. I, too, was terrified because of all of the horror stories out there, but talking to my OB about my options was really helpful. I'd never been on birth control before and after how much my hormones have been through, I didn't want to mess with them again.

If you didn't know, the IUD is placed inside your uterus. They have to hold your cervix open while they do this and some people can find it painful. I was 8 weeks postpartum and it was a little uncomfortable, but not bad at all. They then insert the IUD and make sure that it is positioned correctly. They did an ultrasound of my uterus the entire time so that there was no room for error. Afterwards, they did a vaginal ultrasound just to make sure that everything in my uterus looked okay.

I had mild spotting and cramping for two days and that's it. The other IUDs that are hormonal can stop your periods, but you'll have them normally with the Paraguard. I am breastfeeding so I've yet to have one, but I'm overall extremely happy! Everyone is different, though, so remember that you may have to try a few methods before you find a birth control that works for you.

I couldn't remember to take a pill at the same time every day, I would end up pregnant in a month lol. I tried the nuvaring and the patch. The patch left gunny spots on me that were almost impossible to scrub off. 
After I had my first child young, I didn't want to deal with anymore pregnancies for a while. I got the Mirena IUD (that releases hormones), and kept that for the full 5 years. My period stopped completely, which was fabulous, but I was worried my acne and some other issues were being caused by he hormones, so I switched to the Paraguard IUD after the Mirena expired. I had heard Paraguard will make your periods heavier and your cramping more painful. My period may have been heavier  (between the year not having my period after having my son, then the 5 not having it from the Mirena, I didn't remember what my period was like), but my cramping definitely wasn't any worse. It worked wonderfully, and I didn't have to worry about it until I decided to take it out to try to get pregnant again.  I like that there's no hassle, no upkeep, no worries once it's in, until it expires.

Are you breast feeding? If so your options are more limited. I don't redomend the mini pill, unless you also use condoms %100 of the time. There's a few other options to talk to your dr about as well. I'm pretty sure the iud is fine to use while breastfeeding, and as an awesome prevention rate! As well as minimal side effects.
   If you're not breastfeeding, I recommend the regular combination pill. It's easy, minimum side effects, and protects well, but also recommended to use condoms at least for the first couple months until you're used to taking them.

Pills- easy to take and easy to stop taking.
My husband and I did natural family planning after I went off the pill before we were ttc and that worked well but it's very hard to be accurate if/when breastfeeding.

I don't tolerate hormones well,  so after trying almost every kind,  I went to the Paragard IUD. It's non hormonal, but it is a foreign object in your body so different people react differently.  I used that for 5 years before removing it almost 2 years ago to TTC.
