Membrane sweep/Cervix stretch??

Question

My doctor said in two weeks he's going to do a membrane sweep and stretch my cervix....has anyone had this done? What is it exactly and how fast does it bring on labor?? I'm not due til the 28th so I was just kinda confused....but he did say based on my last ultrasound baby is ready to go! Ahhh I can't believe it's almost baby time, this pregnancy flew by!

Are you against trying more natural ways of labor? Once the sweep is done the labor kicks up and the pain may be unbearable. Usually sweeps are performed due to medical issues, or if you are past 41 weeks.

I had it done they just check your cervix and move their fingers across it to stretch it. Doesn't hurt. Well it isn't enjoyable but it isn't painful lol didn't do anything for me I didn't go into labor until 5 days later

I had it done three times with my second child and it didn't do a nothing but give me horrible contractions that lasted hours and then slowly calmed down. They are not going near my cervix with this baby..

Thanks for everyone's input, I went to 41 weeks with both my other children so I think he was saying he was trying to prevent this from happening again. BUT he got a page and had to leave suddenly so I didn't get to ask very many questions as to what it was and why he was doing it in two weeks. I am not in any way trying to bring on labor early or in an unnatural way, I was simply asking a question about what this is because I have no experience with it. As far as pregnancys go I've been breezing through this one as far as symptoms go. I'm all for him staying in until he's ready! Thanks again, I really appreciate the advice. I think I'm gonna skip this procedure all together and just let him come when he's ready! Good luck to everyone 🙂

I'm not sure what your thoughts are on your doctor's statement, but I did want to make sure to say you can tell your doctor no. You do not have to do the sweep if you do not want to. Personally, I won't do the sweep until after my due date even if my baby is ready, and wouldn't appreciate my doctor making me feel like I don't have a choice in the matter.

I had my sweep a week ago at 38w. I was so excited because I've been miserable lol but I now regret it. It was very painful but didnt last over a couple of minutes. That wasnt the bad part. About 3 hours after it was done I started having regular 5min apart contractions. Went to L&D (3 different occasions) and every time they send me home because I dont dilate past a 4. Even though the contractions are real and constant they will not admit me. Ive been in the worst pain.

They only work 25% of the time. Had mine last week, didn't hurt, and didn't work.

I've had it done and had my daughter the next day, they give you 48hours for it to work here and if it doesn't work in that time scale then that's that, it's uncomfortable but not painful or anything and you might bleed a little, but they are good

I'm due the 22nd and I think my doctor is going to start my labor up as well cause baby is measuring ahead. Hope he comes soon I'm having horrible period cramps since last night !
