Baby wraps vs carriers?

Hey mommies! 
Me and my husband are totally into the baby wearing thing and can't wait for our little one! We were working on researching products for our registry and are torn between the fabric wraps and the carriers with the straps and buckles and such (babybjorn).
 I've heard that baby wraps are better for newborns, but we found a carrier that supports newborns too. 
My biggest worry is that I have a short torso and I'm worried the wrap won't be as secure. And it just seems risky with just fabric?? 
Moms out there that have used the wraps and or the carriers, how do you feel about them?

I love our ergo because it's super secure and doesn't hurt my back, but I also love that I can just clip the buckle closed and not have to tie anything!
It's definitely bulkier than a wrap but baby likes it and I feel more comfortable in it then anything else I've tried!

The right wrap can be very secure and supportive. Woven wraps are the best for that. Don't even bother with a Moby or a baby k'tan or anything like that. Anything that is T-shirt material is not going to be supportive enough eventually. They are fine for newborns, but anything beyond that it's not going to have enough support. I loved using wraps with my daughter. Soft structured carriers are also great, if you get the right one. Baby Bjorns are actually really awesome when they are small because they unbuckle in the front, so when the baby falls asleep in the carrier, you can just kind of unbuckle it and slide the baby out. The problem with them is that you have to make sure you get the Baby Bjorn ONE because the other models don't have the correct leg and hip support. Carriers are so expensive, so when I got a soft structured carrier I bought a Pognae because it was under hundred dollars, it had a zippable mesh insert in the front for hot days so the air can flow, and it was ergonomic for the baby and me. We used that thing forever! I still put her up on my back with it occasionally and she's three! So although I love the woven wraps, I eventually stuck with my Pognae most of the time. But there are lots of great carriers out there, so do your research and see what's best for you.

My little guy loves his Boba wrap and so do I. You tie the wrap based on your individual size so, if done correctly, the fabric will not be too loose. It did take me a couple of tries to figure it out but now I can tie it in under thirty seconds. It does sag after 15 lbs, though, so I'm having to look for something to replace it soon!

My little man is a month old he personally doesn't like his Wrap he also never enjoyed being tightly swaddled though he likes to freely kick so the wrap was a no go for us 😔 I tried out a few front carriers most of them he didn't like because he sat too far down and couldn't look around 😇but we found one made by Chicco he really loves we use it constantly now ! I had tried babybjorn and another from Chicco before getting this one

They have many of groups on Facebook about both plus find a local group around you. They could have different carriers for you to try and find what is best for you!

I have a boba that I used pretty much exclusively for the first month and a half. My son loved it and so did I. He's about three and a half months now and we can still use it but the ring sling is definitely our current favorite. We've also tried a meh dai but it didn't work great for us at the moment. I'm planning to purchase a lillebaby (buckle carrier) and a woven wrap (not stretchy like the boba, so it's a little more secure as they get bigger and there are more carries you can do with it) and will probably try a meh dai again in a couple months.

My advice if you're really wanting to get into babywearing is to not limit yourself to just one type of carrier..they're all great and you may find that your preference changes as baby gets older, or that you prefer different carriers for different situations (for example, the ring sling is super quick and easy to get on but if I'm going to be wearing him for a longer period I might prefer a carrier that will distribute his weight over both of my shoulders). I also highly recommend finding a babywearing group in your area! Babywearing International is a good place to start. They'll have people who can help you find a carrier that works for you and make sure you know how to use it properly. They may even have carriers that you can take home to try out so you can see if you like it before you buy one. If there isn't a group in your area, the Babywearing International website has a lot of great resources! 😊

Get both!! You can get a carrier a little down the road, but I feel like the wrap just keeps them safer and snugger while they're still so small!!

We love our Boba wrap. I have a short torso as well but it works well for us. I was convinced to get the wrap from a mommy of 3 who only started using the wrap with her last baby and she said she wished she had it with her other two because it's so much more comfortable and doesn't make your back hurt.
