Mittens on newborn or no?

I've been thinking and I don't want to put mittens on my baby I just want to cut his nails. I think they're ugly and then my baby won't be able to touch things which is how they learn about the world.

What do you ladies think/plan on doing?

Mittens for the most part when he or she is brand new. After a while we can be a mitten free zone.

I only covered baby girl's hands when we were having visitors and I didn't want them touching her. I think it's important to keep them uncovered.. I agree that's how they learn. Her nails weren't a big deal. I was able to pick or cut them easily.. and she touches her face a lot especially while nursing.

If you cut the nails then mittens aren't needed, it's easier to do while they're sleeping

We used them at night and while our little one was really small otherwise he scratched his face a lot and would get little scratches everywhere they are hard to cut when they are so tiny plus it keeps them warm

Not a fan of the mittens. If my baby had worn mittens she wouldnt have learned to self-soothe at 4 weeks by sucking her thumb. She didnt have long nails, but wouldnt have used them even if she did.

I cut my baby's nails but I wasn't against mittens.  They learn from touching when they are  little older than new born and can reach for things but by then mittens may not fit. I put them on when it was cold lol

Mittens are not necessary if you cut baby's nails. The point of the mittens is so they don't scratch their face or eyes. Make sure to get the corners cut or filed if you don't want to use them.

We put mittens on our daughter for the first week until we were more comfortable with cutting her nails short...she HAD to wear them because she had the longest, perfect, most beautiful fingernails I have ever seen on a baby..but she would cut her face to pieces!!

You aren't supposed to cut baby's nails right away so that's why they make those mittens. My son never had an issue with scratching his face so they weren't needed.
