When did you give your breastfed baby a pacifier

For those moms that gave their baby a pacifier only.

How long did you wait?

Was there a certain nipple type?

My son had a pacifier at the hospital when he was 2 days old and I was pumping and bottle feeding at 4 days old. He has had zero issue with nipple confusion. Honestly I feel like babies take the lead from you. I was always very patient and relaxed with breast feeding so we never struggled with latch or anything. Maybe we were just very lucky.

She only takes it when she's fussy in the car seat. It's pretty rare.

Ours never took one we didn't offer her one until she was 4 months because we had a low milk supply issue to start. She would just bite on the pacifier, spit it out and look at us like, "you're joking..."

They always say to wait 4 weeks so that there is no nipple confusion. However I gave both my daughter and son a pacifier at 2.5 weeks because they just loved to suck. The benefits of pacifiers: soothing and could prevent SIDS. The con: if baby is sucking so much it can trick baby into thinking they are full and they won't eat (I've never had that problem because I still stay on normal feeding schedule). I give baby the pacifier after they have eaten and before they go to sleep.

I never did. But that's solely because I wanted him to self soothe without using something like a pacifier. That's just personal preference though. My pediatrician did say that nipple confusion usually isn't a problem past week four.
